Did some reading in the Wiki. As it sounds like, there IS a safe zone behind me. Being a Castanic, it is about middle-ground for the size, based off my hitbox. Obviously, any attacks that completely envelope me (ie: BAM jumping on my head or some other AOE attack), probably won't protect anyone as it'd put them in the path, but if it were something like an ice blast or the like, you should be safe in a relatively small column behind me and my shield, if I block.
The hitboxes were scaled to make them fairly even so there isn't a wide difference, but as it stands, Elin have the smallest, whilst Amani have the largest. So while I won't be the biggest wall of protection, I won't be the worst, either.
