No, that picture is not of ants killing a tick with their spit. That is likely a drop of ant bait gel. It's an insecticidal bait that comes in a syringe so you can squeeze it into corners, nooks, and crannies. The ants you see are actually harvesting it. Could also be just a drop of, say, beer that the ants are chowing down on. Either way, the tick getting stuck in it was just a tragic accident.

My husband got a job offer on a Naval base in the middle of the desert, so I never got to find out. Not much call for agricultural expertise here.
